Tour Description:
Clean Water Services produces 68 million gallons of clean water every day and is committed to ensuring that water is put to its best use to meet and balance our region’s long-term needs.
Clean Water Services owns and operates four wastewater facilities, and this will be a 2-hour tour at the Durham Water Resource Recovery Facility, located in Tigard. One hour of the tour will focus on the water reuse process and the other tour will be a plant-wide facility tour of the facility which began operations in 1976 and serves Washington County residents in the cities of Beaverton, Durham, King City, Sherwood, Tigard, Tualatin, and small portions of southwest Portland and Lake Oswego.
The facility cleans an average of 26 million gallons of used water each day and is then returned to Washington County’s only river — the Tualatin. Cleaned to near drinking water standards, much of the water is returned to the Tualatin River, but some is reused for irrigation of golf courses, parks, and schools, and for wetland plants and ecological restoration.
