    The Death Drive in Love: Pride and Prejudice and the Obstacle - February 2027

  • This talk will focus on how we might understand the concept of the death drive as it evolves in Jacques Lacan’s thought and in relation to his conception of desire. It will subsequently interpret the Joe Wright film Pride and Prejudice (2005) in the light of this concept, arguing that death drive must play a crucial role in the development of love.

    Registrants are invited to view the film on their own prior to the event. Suggested readings will include excerpts from The Cambridge Introduction to Jacque Lacan, which will be emailed to participants prior to the event.
